Hi all, As its the autumn, things move ahead to the new season. Whats new that you have planned ? What needs moving ? whats a failure and whats a success ?? I would love your input ?
Regards Mr G

I am planning an ornamental vegetable parterre. Sort of semi formal with raised beds and box borders. And I want to make a sort of fern grotto. And I need to rethink my mixed borders - far too many individual plants bunged in without planning. And my front garden needs a complete rebuild. My head hurts

Don't have that much to move around, but all the things that grew twice the height they should have done will have to be moved to the back of the border, and I have a huge clump of Crocosmia 'Severn Sunrise' to lift and divide as it hardly flowered this year. In fact it may get tossed Luckily, that's about it this year, I did a great deal of moving last year.

my plans are similar to Dr.Bill, i tend to buy lots of plant without too much though as to where I'm putting them and some of my borders end up looking bitty. I hate getting rid of anything and cram them in. new rule for next year is maybe less but bigger plants. I'd like to make things easier for myself as i get older. the only reason i would ever move house is if the garden started to go into decline, I'd hate to see that

More bedding in tubs next year with lots of scent.
I'm thinning down the cannas and probably going for more grasses such as miscanthus, Arundo and Pleioblastus in the exotic garden and i'm going to be trying more exotics from seed such as Ricinus.

I've divided my red/maroon coloured Astrantia today as it's really taken off and quadroupled in size this year, have tried sowing seeds but none germinated so dividing seems to be the way to go. Have put some in pots with home made manure which I'm finally getting the hang of making. I've got lots of lovely seeds of smelly plants to sow in the spring thanks to Sara and Emma and T&M and next year my garden is going to be full of scent.

Getting rid/passing on some perennials that I've got fed up with especially anything pink. Taken some more cuttings from my yarrow which is such a brilliant plant that flowers for months on ends and brings so many insects into the garden. Planted up some penestemons that hopefully will bring some deeper colours into late summer. Planted up 3 large grass plants in different shades that should fill a corner that I just haven't decided what to do with yet. Would like to try a red banana from seed next year

Thanks for all the replies !
My Spring border this year was a bit of a disapointment. To many tall dafs so they came out and were replaced by less of the smaller ones. Will also add winter pansies and not just rely on the Hellebores and Hyacinths.
I will need to move three Achillia 'Terracotta' soon. They grew too large for the front of the border. Also going to move some very tall Heleniums that just just flopped. Hopefully replace these at the back with a nice shrub. Also need to introduce some red colours into my east facing border. Getting a bit bored with my three blue Delphiniums at the back of my west facing border. Wanted to bin them but didnt have the heart. So i just moved them to the middle.
Hopefully my small retaining wall will be finished around my patio in a couple of weeks, and hope to finish the patio off round the side of the house by the end of the year.
Loads of plans
Mr G

Had plans to move all sorts this Autumn, but it is all on hold at the moment. Just had an operation and I am not to do anything strenuous for a while (Good job talking to you lot doesn't count as strenuous). Ah well, it will just have to wait for the Spring.

Hello TCL, More or less the same lines as you-- I am taking things easy just now but will plan better in the Spring. Just put miniture Daffodils in and Dwarf Tulips to plant in the next couple of weeks-maybe a few Polyanthus-just to get the garden look as though someone cares for it!! ;D
