Anyone else downloaded IE7 ? Never use it. Firefox is far superior. Give it a try, I don't think you will regret it

Hi Dr B
I've only ever used microsoft windows (in one form or another). I'm not much cop with computers generally and I'm reluctant to try something I have no idea how to use. If it went wrong, I'd be totally stuffed !

It's a doddle Andy It is a free download from mozilla. Just click on the big button to download it to your desktop. Then double click on the icon on your desktop to install it - it is all automatic. It doesn't remove IE so you can still use it if you wish

Hi FA
I am with drbill - Mozilla Firefox is great and far safer than IE - it took me about 2 days to find everything out and add all the attachments I wanted - tabbed browsing etc etc.
I still have IE6 and use it for Internet banking etc but otherwise I only use Mozilla Firefox.
Give it a try - you can always get rid of it should you not like it - you can use both as I do.

I have firefox, its excellent, far safer than IE unless you deliberately download a dodgy program! I never see ads either.

Hi FA I've been using IE7 since the middle of October. There did seem to be a few glitches when it 1st came out It does take some getting used to, but I like it now. I've got mozilla/firefox too but have kept IE as my default browser and forget to switch WB

I'm on IE7 upgraded about 10 days ago, like the tab thingy and the way you add favs. Couldn't find the refresh icon for ages not really played around with it much yet. Not had any probs FA, my pc was on a go slow before I upgraded but has been fine since. Interesting to see what others think of it and what others use too. When I saw this thread it took me a few minutes to think what IE7 was I'm not a technophobe but not wizzy either .

I would only recommend Firefox if your operating system is below Windows XP SP2. Otherwise I prefer IE (but not v7 yet)

I use Firefox at home and have never had any problems with it. At work it's the usual Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Windows XP SP (service pack) 1 was VERY buggy. Particularly on security and a pesky bug with USB devices.
Windows XP is almost always shipped as SP2 these days.
Always use Windows Update though (except for IE7 in my opinion which is still best left alone for a while longer)

A bug Sleepy, was that what it was? I know it sort of spontaneously fixed itself, after an update...but I thought it was a problem with the devices not the usb "programs" Gosh I am a numpty!

It was a bug in the Windows program with how it handled the USB device. A pretty low-level of coding bug I would guess. But that was a long time ago now. Anyone not knowing if they have SP2 should right click on My Computer and select Properties. It will say there. Like this:

Not really. I have set it up before a couple of years ago. You will need to know: - your outgoing (SMTP) mail server address,
- your incoming (POP3) mail server address,
- your username
- and your password
assuming your email account is POP3 of course.
