I've got a wonderful friend, K, and we went out today with our children to the local Wildlife Trust. Now bear in mind that she's not a gardener - she'd struggle to tell the difference between a dandilion and verbena bonariensis.
We had great fun rubbing the leaves of herbs in the sensory garden where there were various mints, lavender, rosemary, marjorum, curry plant, bay, lemon balm etc. and the children loved sniffing and talking about the lovely scents (well except for the curry plant which made them all squeal!). Poor K struggled to recognise thyme from rosemary!!!
Anyway, K pointed out a beautiful bamboo and said that she'd wanted one in the garden for ages. Her garden's tiny so I asked why. "Oh" she said, "I love how they attract the butterflies". I was flummoxed and eventually asked if she meant a budleia, and she said yes that was it. I was nearly rolling on the ground laughing and even she found it funny that she'd mistaken a bamboo for a budleia.
Do you have non-gardening friends who make you laugh in that sort of way?

My best mate just thinks I'm nuts. She'll change her tune when she eventually gets her own house in a few years time and needs some gardening advice.

Yes Plocket. My OH, but in a sad way! He's just not interested despite my efforts!

Yes, my OH too. "Grass is green and flowers are coloured" is what he usually says. He doesn't do any gardening (unless I am doing major work like moving a patio or such), has no idea about plants and he doesn't like visiting GC's. But I think he enjoys looking at my efforts.

Oh and my OH called most of my plants weeds all throughout the house move. I got quite annoyed with him. He said they were all dead (aka deciduous) and should all go in the bin. Git.

I can definitely relate to this. My OH does fairly well in the garden these days but only because he was banned for years. Everything was a weed and had to come out. Then my eldest married and along came the first grandchild and now my OH loves teaching him flower names. Only I know that he looks them up in my books before he comes.
