I joined when it first started and did get in touch with a school friend but nothing really came of it. And I used to get some really weird e-mails telling me that people I'd never heard of were trying to get in touch - it freaked me out a bit!

When I first got my PC a couple of years ago (took me a while to catch up with teh 21st century !), I spent quite a bit of time on Friends Reunited. I caught up with a few old friends but to be honest, I got really bored with it really quickly and I never bothered to renew my membership after the first year.

When I left school I lost touch with lots of very lovely friends largely because when they all went off to university I went into nursing and we drifted apart...we were all doing exciting new stuff and meeting new people. I moved away from the area (Bedfordshire) later and met and married my beloved by the time I was 21, so I was knee deep in being a wife and later a mum whilst most of my ex-school pals were either still at uni or embarking on new careers. I even lost touch with 4P (devastating) as we all moved (including both our parents so there was nobody to contact)
ANYWAY
In 2001/2 when my youngest son left home OH and I bought a computer and the first thing I did was subscribe to Friends Reunited..it was £6 for a year and is now £9. I looked up my old school and there was 4P saying 'WHERE ARE YOU?!'...I mailed her back and we've been in touch ever since. Fantastic, she's my bosom friend and nobody else knows me like she does..I can tell her anything (and do) and I can rely on her like a sister....ooo I'm filling up...
I've spoken to lots of old chums via 'friends'...altho the main reason to join was to find 4P, I'm also in regular contact with another old school chum, 2 teachers and a neighbour from when I lived in Bedfordshire.....so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend friends reunited.

I joined a couple of years back and did catch up with some old friends. I went to school in surrey, then moved to Kent and again to Essex so lost touch with people. I haven't renewed my membership, and now I have had a message from an old work mate who is trying to get in touch, but of course, I can't reply if I don't cough up the cash! Shall I or shan't I.....?

I still see most of my old school friends 25 years after leaving school.
I did join friends reunited and got in contact with a few more who i now see occasionally.

Nice to see you on the board EJ Guess it depends how much you want get in touch with them EJ, have to confess I had a couple of old school mates e.mail me, it never came to anything so I guess neither parties were really that bothered. If you have no other way of contacting them, via other people, then you got to cough up the £9

I registered for the free membership just to see if there was anyone worth getting in touch with but there wasn't. I'm in touch with only one person from my secondary school and that's because she was the only person I wanted to stay in touch with.
It got easier to stay in touch with people when I was at college because Mobile Phones were becoming more common so you gave people your number and they texted you when they changed numbers so I'm in touch with more people that way than anything else. I moved from Altrincham to Bradford and then to Conwy so too hard for people to find me any other way!
I had a friend from college contact me via myspace the other week though and it was really good to hear from him.

We had a look last year for the first time. Ended up joining after someone contacted me, I suppose if you think of £9 over a year it's not a lot, especially if you do find it useful. It had a novelty value, quite fascinating to read what some people I knew years ago are [supposedly] up to! Most of the people I was 'investigating' hadn't posted anything for a while, my guess is they joined up and got bored. We have had contact from a few peeps and I have sent good wishes messages back. But I wasn't hoping to find anyone as such, just being nosey! I used to see most of the people I wanted to keep contact with down the pub til just before I got married, and still have ways of getting in touch. Some people put their entire wedding album or pics of their children on there. I wouldn't want to do that, and I even find it a bit sad. Has anyone else found that the main people they hear from was the school geek... I never have the heart to ignore it, I bet some people do! It is nice to hear that some of you have found old friends or family members on there. I haven't had any scarey emails, but find the update messages they send misleading. I think it is a ploy to get you back on there again if you haven't visited for a while.
