I know this isn't in the "for sale" section....but i'm not selling it ;D. If you can leave this in here for a couple of days admin so people can see it, i would appreciate it.
If anyone wants my red banana.....Ensete Maurelii, it's yours for nuffink.
It is in a big pot and is about 7' tall to the top of the leaves.
Unfortunately, i had to chop off all but two of the leaves to get it in but it will grow new ones and look really good next year. It needs winter protection and would benifit going into a bigger pot or even in the ground in a cool conservatory.
Anyway, it's yours if you want it...collection only from Lewes, east Sussex and if no one takes it in a week, it's going to the tip as i want my conservatory back !!!

Just seen this Andy - yes of course it can stay here is you want, but are you really going to get rid of that beautiful plant. Ooooh what I would give to have that - mind you I wouldn't get into the lounge if I did have it.
I do hope that someone gives it a good home - it would be awful to have to throw it away............erm how good can you swim!!!

Andy, are you sure you want it to go to the 'tip'. I would try to plant it in the garden and givr it the usual winter protection. You would not be losing anything if it did die--same as throwing it on the tip!

You would not be losing anything if it did die--same as throwing it on the tip! There's a few bananas that will tolerate the brittish winter but the red banana isn't one of them. I might think about taking it to work and leaving it in my "frost free" shed. That's if no one wants it

Well, i'm having a major re-think about the conservatory. At present, it's used as a greenhouse/overwintering house/potting shed/summer house/dog kennel/general junk store and occasionally a dining room. I'd like to turn it into a dinning room full stop but it's a little chilly out there for that....even with a 3kw oil filled radiator on full all day, it only gets to about 12 deg C when it's cold. Unfortunately, the red banana isn't in the new plans. I've had no enquities about it and to tell you the truth, it was so big and heavy that two of us could only just lift it. I couldn't take it to work as it wouldn't survive on the back of a flat back van.....so i've just taken the plunge and chopped it up. It had just sent a lef out that was doubled over on the roof of the conservatory and another leaf was winging its way up.....it really was taking over (see above comment about little shop of horrors !!!) So it's gone....my wife is happy and i have some space in the conservatory again

you naughty boy........you could have advertised it on free-cycle, I'm sure that you must have a local one where you live, you can get rid of all sorts and the best thing about it is it's all free....I got some large pots for my garden from my local one.

Isn't it awful when you have to make a decision to murder plants? I chucked out a batch of my poor ailing houseplants this Autumn but I just left them out in the cold......their poor stumps and withered skeletons reproach me every time I go out to feed the animals. I tried to keep them going year after year but it was no good - they were on their last legs about 3 summers ago..........I must go out and compost them - I can't stand the guilt. I admire your bravery Andy! ;D

Isn't it awful when you have to make a decision to murder plants? Well thank you very much 4P ....go on, make me feel worse There is still hope....the rootball is on the back of the van and it hasn't been particularly cold so i might still save it and keep it at work
