We've had no water since Monday. Our supply comes from a well up the lane. We've been here for 11 years and ne'er a problem until Monday (bar freezing temperatures and that's only been for a day or two at most). Turn the taps on - at best a trickle! Haven't been able to wash - ourselves (trips to MiL to accomplish), brush our teeth, clean our dishes - trips to supermarket for bottled water. It has been a bit of a chore. OH has been 'up the lane 't well' and found a family of frogs - all different sizes - happily swimming about - in our well. Hmmmmmm. We got a 'man' in today. He's 'unbunged' the outflow pipe and found, I'm sad to say, a very dead frog. So, £150 later we have water again! I've posted this here, as opposed to the general thread, because we rely so much on our well for domestic and gardening use. And because there is the 'frog'/wildlife connection. Anyone else had the same problem?

Yes Shrub, We get our water from a spring, which is a considerable distance from the house. The pipe has been in place since 1870, so, as you can imagine, it is in poor condition. All the houses pay £100 per annum to a Water Fund, so that pays for repairs. Our main problem is that up till a few years ago, the springs were in the middle of a forest of fir trees, but the Estate which owns the land cut it down to allow sheep on to the hillside to graze. We now have e-coli in the water, and have to boil it before drinking. We have a filter, but because my folks are so elderly, I don't trust it completely to make their water safe. Things like this make you appreciate just what a precious commodity water is, and I am horrified at the thought of how much I used to waste. Glad you are operational again.

I am pleased that you once again have running water Shrubrose. I must admit that we all take it for granted, and it obviously had to be sorted out, but it seems rather a lot of money for a dead Frog doesn't it.

Thanks all for your good wishes. We seem to be ok now. Although we dont pay water rates we do have to pay for a filter twice (takes out solid particles) a year and UV light (to kill bacteria). Still works out cheaper though and it's very fresh water which is lovely. Yes Pip, it was a lot for one unlucky little frog! Hope we dont have too many repeats

Oh my word poor you Shrub, been doing the rounds through the boards tonight and only just read this thread. So glad to hear you have got sorted, who'd have thought a little frog could cause so much trouble. Our water and leccy was off the other week from 9 - 4 they did warn us but I never expected it to be nearly all day. Does make you appreciate the things we have at the turn of a tap and a flick of a switch
