i'm having a blitz on some of the older shrubs, has anyone got any idea how far I can cut my pittosporum back (more of a tree now). I'd like to take it back about 2ft and get fresh growth as is is all bare at the bottom now

The name sounds familiar, if it is the same as I'm thinking it has really tiny tiny white waxy flowers on it. My friend had one in the house that she moved into this time last year and it had out grown itself. She hard pruned it this spring and it has grown back like a mad thing, looks much better for it. I've tried to ring her to ask for you but no one is in so don't take my word for it Beanie in case I'm wrong. Someone else is sure to have an answer

I would love to know if Pittosporum can be hacked back too - mine is also like a tree and is causing a very shady corner that is hard to find plants for My plant has very dark purple tiny flowers

They are pretty good at being cut back very hard but I would be inclined to leave it until the spring & give it a good feed & water when you have done it to encourage the new growth.
