I few weeks ago I harvested my meagre crop of chilies and sweet peppers. The worst crop ever. The sweet peppers were exceptionally bad and some were rotten. However, there were a significant number of underdeveloped ones about 4 cm long that I took off the plants anyway. Mrs C asked if they would ripen. I said probably. And so they were placed into two bowls. They did start to turn red, but in the meantime I noticed they were becoming rather fewer in number. Asking Mrs C whether she was using them she replied "Oh no, 2 year old daughter is eating them like apples and also feeding them to 14 month old, who is loving them, seeds an' all" . Then Mrs C decided to cut up and eat one herself.........and her lips and tongue swelled instantly. Several hours of hand scrubbing later she removed her contact lenses and then couldn't open her eyes until the next day. Reviewing the situation I had of course harvested evil harbaneros and scotch bonnets, rather than sweet peppers. To those NOT in know, those really hot chillies in the supermarket top out at about 40,000 Scoville units (a measure of heat in chillies), whilst the "sweet peppers" the kids and Mrs C ate can go to 300,000 Scoville units The moral is....always use cold water when washing after handling chillies (hot water makes it stick). And don't trust very young kids when they indicate food is safe to eat ;D Cabbage

I had rather hoped I could supply folk on here with rare (as in it took me 2 years to get hold of them) Black Pearl chillie seeds as they fared so well in 2005 trials of decorative veggiesl But the green and whitefly have trashed that hope since bringing indoors. I'm really peeved. Mind you the price is now a fraction of what it was...... seeds.thompson-morgan.com/uk/en/product/60/2Cabage PS: No I am not forgiven by Mrs C! I am under strict instructions to grow chillies that are similar to ones grown in northern India. As for the kids......
