My daughter told me today that her OH had been out pruning with the secateurs - he has given their rhododendron a really good trim! She asked me, earlier in the year, why it didn't have any flowers - I reckon I may have the answer now Anyone else with gardening novices in the family? x Tig

Not so much novice as still believing the label...... My Dad (General Cabbage) constructed an arch out costing a grand £2.50 from wood from a caravan manufacturer. He then planted a Clematis montana x Elizabeth in memory of my sister (she's not dead, just his memory's rubbish ;D). The label says "grows to 3 meters". It should have said "3 meters a year". Will he listen that you have to cut this monster to knee high after flowering? No! It just keeps growing. "Well the label says it grows to 3 meters......" is the response
