Just got in from our local huge-and-lovely ironmongers with 10 packs of Growtubes marked down to 49pence a pack of twenty.
Mind you, they are bio-degradable... they may be compost before I use them all...

I must admit that I had to google them as we don't have them here - well I have never seen them - but it certainly is a good bargain from what I can see......an alternative to loo rolls anyway!!

They dont do gro-tubes at our GC and I have not seen them anywhere else either but they are great for Sweet Peas etc if you dont have any loo roll inners. What a bargin OM. I was after some of those plastic bag type bags that young trees used to come in but they dont do them anymore, something about the root system not growing right in the bags so ended up with lots of 7"pots that they where throwing away, got about 40 for £1 which was great I thought, they are all good strong pots.

Um, what's a growtube? I don't get out much atm and all these newfangled things are a mystery to me....... Wotcha 4P! I used them for last year's trials (first time) and was v.impressed - this is them in the back row: a tall tapering tube, no advantage over loo rolls for germinating really, but I was 'taken' by the bonus that if only filled to within an inch of the top, and planted out similarly sticking up by an inch, slugs and snails might just be thwarted... Seemed to work. OM.

You are an expert/jammy git at being in the right place at the right time... ;D I can see one serious advantage over loo rolls - no mouldy bits after a couple of days watering and they stay intact (hang on, that's two then). aren't they basically peat pots?
They sell them at B&Q for about 98p I think for about 56 or maybe 72. I think it's a multiple of 12 but I can't remember how many. I bought 2 packs last year but they're in the locker now so can't go have a look. That will annoy me now.

aren't they basically peat pots? Only in the sense that they're planted with the seedling... these are taller (useful for beans and sweetpeas) less likely to collapse (hence the slugbarrier of the inch upstand when planted out) and bottomless (so absolutely no impedement to roots)... OM.

Saw these at the market this morning... 50p a pot or £8 the tray of 18: past their best for show, but perfectly 'in the green' for transplanting, can't be bad surely. Anyone else got bargins lately? OM.

Can I visit? Only I dont have a tatoo Most certainly - it's only a handy hint to tell the difference among locals, not mandatory. I'm sure it'snot needed in your case - but there's many a tattoo parlour in Yarmouth will be pleased to send you back to sunny Lancs with a souvenir... OM.
