Hi all. We would love to park my car on the garden [vandals love knocking off wing mirrors and climbing on the cars!], but I'm not keen to lose the grass. Has anyone experienced anything like this grass protection mesh? www.boddingtons-ltd.com/forestry/grass-protection-mesh.htm?gclid=CKDdke79gJECFSZPMAodJluI_QI presume if the car is parked for any length of time the grass will struggle, but I've seen it available for a couple of hundred quid for 25 metres, so it could be a reasonably priced experiment as an alternative to costly paving? We're not expecting to do it in a hurry, obviously we would need to get planning permission etc for a drop kerb. But I wondered if it was worth considering?

I saw this in a GC the other day...they have extended the car park and instead of digging up the grass and laying gravel like the rest of the car park they have put this mesh stuff down...I think that it looks really good.

they put that down in the play area of heaton park, it looks ok. could you build a ramp with wood, so you dont have to go to the expense of dropping the kerb.

Hmmm...that's not legal though Barbara, and I have a very guilty conscience. I don't think it would take some of my neighbours long to complain. Plus it would mean I could quite easily be blocked in if someone parks there. The OH could park across the drop kerb, so they wouldn't lose any parking spaces. It would just mean he always parked there, instead of another spot.

They have used that stuff for temporary parking where I work Jonah. They even mow the grass once it has bedded in! Seems to work fine, although the ground was fairly hard to begin with. If your lawn has a 'solid' bed it should be OK. Years ago, my Dad just laid two rows of slabs into the lawn and parked on them, over time the grass grew over the edges and softenned the look. x Tig
