I found four bulbs while digging roadside Horseradish at the back end of last year, and shamelessly trousered them as they looked interesting. Of course, they may turn out to be nothing much, but this is them so far: Just for the fun of it, anyone care to guess what they will be, eventually? OM.

Well looking at the growth I'd have said Lily of the Valley but they aren't a bulb

OM I always thought they had more of a tuberous root Well, these were four, distinct, small, bulbythings, each with an 'eye' as I recall. Your reply so unnerved me, I''ve just been out for a torchlight disinterment, a sort of premature lilybroggle: there's no sign of a bulb at all, just a stem with lots of roots - but of course that may be what lots of bulbythings look like when they get growing. Allow for a senior moment... I admit it, I can't actually remember what the bloody things looked like, though 'bulbs' came to mind. What are they going to be, that's the question... OM.

Just had a thought, I don't know what the things I think they may be are called but they have a stem that comes up from the centre and it has red berries on it all crammed together like sweetcorn. I've seen them growing in the wild in woods and hedgerows. Only Chuckles could describe something in this way ;D

Arum lillies ? Lords and ladies....greeny white spathe with red berries ? Ahhh... so that's what those 'redberriesonastick' things are (probably your 'sweetcorn' too Chukles). Just Googled 'lords and ladies' and found this: www.the-tree.org.uk/EnchantedForest/WoodlandFlowers/lordsandladies.htmWould love them to be so, but erm.... is it hugely illegal for me to have dug them up? OM.

Wondered whether it could be wild garlic OM, but you would have smelled it methinks and known! They look strong and healthy anyway so I'm interested to see what they turn out to be too.

I wouldn't have thought it was illegal to dig them up OM but removing wildflowers is frowned upon. Lords and Ladies/Arum Maculatum aren't rare though so I don't think you need to be worried

OM Lily of the valley grow from rhizomes OM The leaves of LotV don't have the markings shown on your photo. They are much smoother and linear if they are LotV.

Arum lillies ? Lords and ladies....greeny white spathe with red berries ? I have them all over the place. Quite unobtrusive. I shouldn't think there's much problem with finding a few. I also have the lovely Arum italicum 'Marmoratum' I put in last year doing it's stuff now.
