Oooo you've reminded me - my dad used to call me "Helmet" because I used to wear the hood of my little blue baby dressing gown even when I'd grown out of it, and it became my "nanket". He even named his dingy Helmet after me!!! And when we were older he called me Myrthr Gerkin Tydfill (apologies to the Welsh for my spelling) but luckily only for the duration of our holiday.

I must say I have delayed replying to this as not sure whether I really wanted to divulge this information My Brothers friends at school used to call me Egor but I think thats because they secretly fancied me My ex husband used to call me treacle - guess a pet name rather than a nickname. My partner calls me binty mcfox - because he says I'm a foxy chick. My last workplace, my colleagues called me minky - minky chick with peachy knicks - believe me they never got to go anywhere near my knickers. I think thats about it..

At school I was Buffleshumf, Shufflebum or Bumf...4P still calls me Bumf...sometimes Ethel. (3 QMVTs Ethel, Gladys and Myrtle)
One bf called me Obliov for some reason.....
When I was a student nurse one of the junior Doctors used to call me 'Killer' because when I saw my first dead person I cried like a baby. (gave up nursing after one year because I was so soppy)
When I was a Saturday girl at M&S I was called S/Wood (s-stroke-wood) by all the other Saturday staff...because my full surname wouldn't fit onto the dinner rota thingy....
AND forgot...another bf called me Camille (Camille Chameleon/Liz Lizard...)
ANDANDAND my old boss used to call me 'Red Leicester' because I have red hair and come from Leicester.....

I only have one nickname (apart from the usual round of "lard arse" "porky" "fat bloke" etc) and that's "Victor" (as in Meldrew). Some of my colleagues call me it. I don't know why. Little ray of sunshine, me ! FA x

My main one is Magpie, from when I was a Tudor stillroom mistress, taken from a 16th century quote about somebody being 'as merry as a magpie'! I'm also Ethel (whenever Seedling's Gertie), and was called Tiddle (by my Dad) until the Seedling arrived and took over that one, thankfully!!!

The wife (and most people I have met for that matter, except my boss) calls me Mr Nobody........ So its all your fault CC I know a funny little man, As quiet as a mouse, Who does the mischief that is done In everybody's house! There's no one ever sees his face, And yet we all agree That every plate we break was cracked By Mr Nobody You know me too well! Shame, just as I thought I had miraculously acquired some qualities. Mrs Cabbage on the other hand is far from perfick......she left the toilet seat DOWN again this evening!

What about you, sleepy? did you never have a nickname...or are you sensitive about it?

Post by sleepysunday on Nov 30, 2006 9:17:18 GMT
No, never had one. Often wanted one, but it seemed self defeating to suggest ones own.
I suppose I do have the nickname 'Sleepy' now amongst a few friends.

I was Myrtle Sprogknocket to my dearest friends (as explained by CPB) above. Didn't really have any others apart from in the 6th Form, one bloke called me a "jolly lump of pork". I didn't like it at first until I realised it was a term of affection.......
PS Sarah, I am approximately 7/10 of an inch taller than you (not that I'm measuring...). If it wasn't for us small people, tall people wouldn't be.
