OK folks....yesterdays college tale As some of you may know I missed last weeks class due to illness. When I arrived yesterday morning all psyched up for the assessments I got chatting to my classmates. They had done the mock assessment last week and all felt that it was only fair that I should do a mock also. Our teacher agreed but said it was entirely up to me. They said that they had learnt alot from the mock.....i.e. the teacher would point out where stuff could be improved etc, etc, etc. After much deliberation I decided to do the mock so off I went on my merry way to produce my posy! I ONLY GOT A DISTINCTION............................ .................. S x

OMG so if it had been the assessment, you wouldn't have to do it again? Well done! ,( but does this mean you have to go out and spend another £20 on flowers to reproduce your posy for the real assessment?)

Yes Sweetleaf, it's going to cost me another £20 for more flowers . This course is proving VERY expensive!!

You can dry roses out.....................hang them upside down in an airing cupboard or somewhere similar.

The motto of my daughter's school was per aspera ad astra which translates similarly - through rough ways to the stars ...

Hello 4pygmies, You can also dry roses in silica gel crystals - fine grade Put the roses in a box and sprinkle the crystals over them until they are completely covered , put the lid on and leave for a few weeks. The silica gel removes the moisture from the flowers but they do keep their shape and colour. When I did my City and Guilds 3rd year Flower Arranging we had to do a project of 4 different methods of preserving plant material Drying.Silica gel,Glycerine and Pressing. It was very interesting!

Well Done Susie Snowdrop I admire your ambitions
I took a night school class in floristry and was shocked at the amount of money had to spend each week on flowers and of course the extra bits, ferns, grasses
I now find, still do my own arrangements, that on my daily doggy walks (if I take my secateurs(sp) ) there are so many types of foliage I can "borrow" from the hedgerows
Yesterday "found" ;)some laurel and holly - and it bolstered up my arrangement free of charge
Anyone else get their foliage from the countryside
