Hi all,
when I started my garden a friend gave me a clump of crocosmia; ignorantly, I just planted it as was. This year plenty of leaves came up, with a few flower buds which just withered and died. Should I dig it up, seperate out the corms and replant it, or wait until next year and see what happens? Incidentally, I have noticed the same problem in a few front gardens around the area - so could it be the odd weather?? ... cheers ...

Mine have been the same this year :(and it is possibley down to the hot weather we had. They do get very congested thoug as well and may need splitting up.

I would say yes, to digging it up, separating the corms and replanting them I have loads of Crocosmia Lucifer, which had a very poor and short display this year caused by the very hot weather IMO

My Crocosmia Lucifer has given another poor show this year but I find it takes a while for these to form a decent clump, another which is yellow (thinks its George Davidson), has done really well, I split it in late Autumn last year and now have a few clumps, it does seem to spread quickly though.
If you have a decent size clump I'd split it in a few weeks, taking out some of the "bulblets" and make smaller clumps. Be warned though it does spread and is very difficult to eradicate completely (Monbretia grows like weeds in my area)
