I have placed an enormous tub against a West facing wall on my decking, in which I have already planted a yellow honeysuckle and would like a fragrant rose to keep it company.
I don't want it to grow very high and after some research have come up with the following roses I thought may fit the bill. As my previous experience with roses is limited I wondered if some of you could comment on my choices or suggest an alternative. Thanx in advance
Breath of Life Crimson Glory Golden Showers Masquarade
Cheers Px ;D

Not a rose person, but on colours alone:
Breathe of Life is a peach colour and would clash
Crimson Glory - my choice
Golden Showers - 2 yellows, it would get lost
Masquarade - Mainly red with some yellow. OK, but prefer Crimson Glory

Hi Plantaholic
Well as far as there being others Roses - yes thousands and I will let someone else help you there as the names on my Roses can be different.
However to come back to your selection and my personal preference.
Breath of Life is a Clmg Rose which is a Apricot/Peachy colour - it could be a little wishy washy - I wouldn't go for it.
Crimson Glory is a HT - Velvet Red - not for me either..
Golden Showers - a Clmg Rose - well I have this rose and when it opens up the anthers are beautiful and together with the yellow from the honeysuckle could look really something....
Masquarade - a Floribunda - a rose that starts life yellow and as it ages turns red - this once again could be superb in my eyes.
If you choose a Climbing Rose then you do not have to let it grow so high - I have Climbing Roses that I keep as Bush Roses. However Climbers and Floribundas/Bush Roses would be ideal.
The Honeysuckle does tend to get woody underneath anyway so perhaps you could also plant a perennial or two should the tub be big enough.

I'd go for Masquarade, it's a beautiful rose and mine still has a few flowers on now. One bit of advise with large pots or tubs, make sure it has more than one drainage hole and a good inch or two of crocks in the bottom. Yesterday I spotted one of mine was flooded to the top with water because the drainage hole had blocked, I spent ages removing a 7ft climbing rose and bulbs from a soggy stinking mess

Thanks guys Well I've crossed Breath of life off my list and now need to decide re the other 3 . I've already grown Masquarade in the past which was not as fragrant as I would like and also Golden Showers which was nice but the blooms were a bit lax. Decisions decisions Px

If scent is important to you then I wouldn't go for Golden Showers - it's lovely but it's on my list for my next garden, which means I've sniffed it somewhere & it's not very strongly scented. Some more ideas (just to confuse you): www.britishroses.co.uk/climbpatio.htmI also searched Peter Beales for climbing roses suitable to grow in a pot & their site came up with Open Arms & Mme Berard, but it didn't say how scented they are - British Roses thinks Open Arms is quite scented though.

Look at Maidens Blush great as an option, double blush pink flowers with amazing scent which fills my garden. Look it up on Peter Beales site.
