Plants seem to be all over the place this year.
My Leucojum autumnale has been flowering for abot a month - doesn't usually start till about September.
Clematis rehderiana has finished flowering, again doesn't usually start flowering until late September.
No sign of flowers on the Acontium yet or the Nerines, and the Anemonies are in full flower - very odd.

Being my first year of gardening, I can't really comment but does this mean that my gardening diary that I have kept this year will probably be no use next year?
It will be interesting to compare the two diaries at the end of next year.
Skarloey. ;D

And, despite the dreadful heat and drought, have you noticed how incredibly full of fruit all the trees are? As I walk my dog through the forest round me, I am noticing so many acorns, beech nuts, as well as blackberries, sloes etc. Does it mean a terrible winter approaching or is it a response to the extreme weather as the trees have been suffering so much at root level? Like a need to spread their seeds in case the parent plant is dying?

Yes I have, masses of fruit everywhere - going blackberrying tomorrow if the weather allows.
An old countryman I knew used to say that all the 'lots of berries on the hedgerows meant a bad winter was a load of rubbish' it just meant we'd had a good summer with rain and sun just when it was needed, I think he was right. Last year the hedgerows etc here were pretty sparce on fruit (fab spring, but lousy summer) and we had the worst winter for over 20 years. so I think maybe he was right.

I still have foxgloves in flower, all be it the side shoots after the main stem had been cut back, never still had them in August before.

I've got a 'cup & saucer' vine going in for world domination in the back garden...it's growing like a weed in amongst the passion flowers, has swamped out my asarina and is sending out tendrils into the flower bed...but no sign of flowers in amongst all that growth. The morning glory heavenly blue is putting on a pretty poor show, as is the mina lobata and ipomoea cardinal....usually my fence is covered in blooms at this time of year...oh well...there's always next year. HI CPB
I love Cobaea scandens too, and mine usually flowers really late but then goes on until the first frosts... very jealous, because I didn't do any this year - post us a pic when it starts, would you?

Yes it has been an odd year for me lol and for my garden - what I have noticed most of all is that most of my flowering plants have flowered for a shorter time than usual. My pheasant berry has just refused to grow

Well, my alchemilla mollis took a break during August and has now sent out lots of new flower stems. Looks lovely, but surely that's not supposed to happen? Unfortunately, as a new garden, I don't have previous years to compare it with ... cheers ...

Hi all
My weigela has just finished its second set of flowers, since they are only supposed to flower in may and June i think Ive done well.
Does seem odd though even the old lady across the road from me cant believe what she has got flowering that shouldn't be.
Nothing seems to know how to react to the change in weather.

Hi everyone. Well my oriental poppy has a huge bud ready to open for the second time this year. Thought it was all done but its bushed up and is now producing again. I only hope the rain and winds don't ruin it before it has a chance. Seems we all have something strange happening. Wx

Hi willow
I agree with you there is definitely something going on but if plants keep on flowering when they shouldn't, then i don't mind.
