Cowslips are good, I bought some seedlings last year and they never died backcompletely,although I expected them to, but still self seeded.
I have to be careful I dont weed them out, but they were excellent last year, when very little else was flowering. ;D

I LOVE wild flowers and grow them in all my flower beds (and the veggie garden)..my recommendations are:Dark Mullein, Scabious, Foxglove, Ox Eye Daisies, Meadow Crane's Bill and Harebells. There are so many beautiful ones - these are the ones which really grow well in my dry, sandy soil. There are LOTS more I could name but I don't want to bore you all!

Fox and cubs (hieracium aurantiacum) is a good choice as are some of the little flaxes (linaria sp). There are also some delightful little trefoils too (Lotus sp) and speedwells (veronica sp)
