Hi all ... just a word of warning to all you happy bulb hunters going down to your local supplier. I went to our local - great - bulb shop yesterday to stock up. While there, I saw a woman picking up a couple of bulbs from one box, obviously deciding she wasn't sure about the colour, and dropping them into a box a little further on ... which obviously means the colours got mixed up. There's no way for the shop-keeper to rectify this, since different-coloured bulbs of the same type look the same). I mentioned this to the manager, and she said it often happens no matter how much they keep an eye out. She suggested visiting the shop early in the morning, when they have just replenished the boxes from the sacks. On a brighter note, got loads of tulips, alliums and irises, and can't wait to get planting once the rain clears! ... cheers ...

Yep, it also show you the value of buying from a grower, you might pay a little more, but you get what you pay for, and they are stored properly too.

It also shows some people don't care about others ... if that person could pick bulbs out of a certain box ... why couldn't she put them back in the same one Don't you just hate this, "I'm alright Jack" attitude !!!

I wish people would put a little more thought into their actions too - my pet hate is people not bothering to put supermarket trollies away properly, or at all. I once saw a runaway trolley hit a parked car but I was too far away to do anything about it. As for getting the wrong bulbs, I once picked up a pack of nerine bulbs to try for the first time. The should have been the common mid pink ones to show up gainst a yellowish/white brick wall. They were beautiful when they flowered but were such a pale pink that you couldn't see them from a distance.

From my experience in people watching MOST people do not care about others. This is the reason we have rampant litter louts, graffitti pests, thieves, etc, etc. It continues to get worse the more we continue to become a society that expects as a right instant gratification and satisfaction of personal wants.

Sounds like we've gone into a rant here ;D ;D I too don't like the thoughtlessness of some but you simply have to live with it or go stark raving mad. I had a pleasant surprise with my tulip bulbs from last year. I thought I managed to misplace some red ones with yellow fringes for eternity. Or in an area where the mice might have had a ball. Turned out I left them behind my cold frame in the shed and though the outside peel was moldy the bulbs inside were in perfect condition. So hardly any bulbs to buy ( as if I can refrain from buying ) I always keep the old bulbs in newspapers during the summer In my shed that can get pretty hot and check in September. They are all fine to go into the ground in November. I never plant them sooner. The borders in front of the house are too hot. Also the pots in the back are not free before then. Ah the planning ahead for a colourful Spring yippy Dutchy

I bought loads of bulbs at Kings Heath, and came home to add them to my collection, only to realise I`ve got most of them already, never mind...just proves I like `em! It seems I really really like Allium Christophii as I have found 3 bags of em that I forgot I`d bought I keep them in those net bags they give you in washing powder tablets, and hang them in a dark cupboard in the shed, they dont go mouldy and always keep well....now Ive just got to find room for them!
