Hi all,
I know that malvas - well, common mallows anyway - self-seed like mad, so I was wondering ... could I sow these seeds in the open ground now (lack of space for sowing indoors)? Has anyone had experience growing these from seed? Any tips appreciated ... cheers ...

Have you got lots of seeds Canarycreeper? If you have you could scatter some of them in the open ground, and save some "just in case". Sorry but I can't do any better than that!

I never quite trust myself with seeds in the soil as I usually have a massive weeding attack and everything goes...including stuff I've sown. Now I sow in modules, overwinter either outside or in a cold frame and plant out as soon as possible where I've cleared a space. Any Malva would be fine sown straight out I would think, but, as Plocket says, it's just as good to have a "back up" sowing.

Thanks Plocket & 4P - I know what you mean about the weeding attacks, 4P! Earlier this year I carefully removed all my hollyhock seedlings - and didn't realise what I'd done until I saw pictures on them on the seedling site . Anyway, I've sown a few malvas in the ground and will be very careful weeding in the spring! ... cheers ....
