Hi all,
I have a cutting of fuchsia magellinica, and wanted to train it as a standard for the front of the house. I know that I should keep pinching off side shoots ... but should I also pinch the growing tips so that the top is evenutally nice and bushy? Has anyone experience with growing a standard fuchsia? ... cheers ...

You need to let it grow straight up until it reaches the height you want it to reach & then you nip out the top of the shoot to encourage the top to bush out. Don't be too hasty taking off the side shoots as these are feeding the plant as it grows. (I should say that I have never actually grown a standard fuschia but have trained a couple of other plants.)

I feel a bit mean contradicting beejay but the side-shoots should be removed until the plant is about 3/4 the height you want it to be - then leave them to grow to make the head of the Fuchsia.
Don't remove the leaves on the stem - only the side-shoots!
Sorry beejay!

Ooops, you're right Isabella, I did mean to say leaves not side shoots. Smack my hand for getting carried away!
