Hi all ... I planted a clump of acidanthera in the spring; they've all come up but no sign at all of buds. I know I should lift them after flowering, but what if they don't flower? ... should I lift them before the frost anyway? I think the problem may be that I planted them too shallowly ... any advice appreciated ... cheers ...

I see that I've just become a 'gardener' in the virtual world ... but, as is clear from the above posting, am still a complete novice in the real world ... cheers ...

I dig my Acidanthera in the Fall when the leaves start to die back and bring them inside to protect them from freeze. Maybe yours didn't bloom because the bulbs were too young / small? Did they produce nice healthy leaves? I store mine in a shallow tray filled with pine shavings inside the house. C3D

Hi Canarycreeper. Lot o' healthy foliage will give lots of energy to the bulbs so they will bloom happily for you next season! I think they are beautiful flowers!

Hi CC
The trouble with lots of Acidanthera bulbs sold at garden centres is that they are undersized, and struggle to flower.
Mine are about 4' tall in flower garden centre ones usually struggle to reach 3'.
