Having decided to give up on my hypericum hidcote ( 2 years following all the leaves shrivel and die back in July and then miracuously come back to life a few weeks later) I need a few ideas for some shrubs that can stand full sun, that grow to approx 6' - scent and flowers optional,

How about a Choiysa or a Weigela both like full sun and are very pretty shrubs.

I love Physocarpus 'Diablo'. Buddlea colvilei 'Kewensis' - although as this flowers on previous years wood unlike B. davidi, it gets a bit big - stunning though.
Viburnum carlesii for scent, like daphne but easier to grow.
If you like Weigela try Weigela middendorffiana, glorious pale yellow flowers, not as thugish and the usual red.
Abelia grandiflora or x grandiflora Edward Goucher.

Hi jlottie Does it need to flower the same time as Hypericum? If not I have a Viburnum tinus 'eve Prince' ( i think.) planted before I moved in. grows to 10ft x 10ft. If you let it. ( re Allan Titchmarsh.) Its in bud now & will flower until early spring. GREAT for winter colour, when the rest of the garden looks sad. Alicat PS. like your funny cats video's.! Had the whole family in stitches. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D PPS. just done a spell check :- 'Titchmarsh' comes up as' mishmash' ;D

Hi Alicat I have vibernum in another part of my garden and its doing really well. I think cotinus royal purple (smoke bush) might also be on my list as I like the deep coloured leaves. The cat videos came from my daughter, she has 4 cats and is as daft as me

This physocarpus diablo is really stunning! I googled it and I love the combination of the dark purpely leaves with the red fruits. But I also read it becomes rather big.
Can it be kept smaller? Or in a BIG pot? (I have a cornus causa schmetterlink in a pot too)
