My OH has announced that he's never liked a duvet in the winter and would like us to invest in some BLANKETS and more sheets so that we can have an old fashioned bed. Now I am a woman of 'a certain age' so walk about (and indeed lay down) with my very own microclimate and the very thought of being weighted down and PINNED to the bed by several tons of woolly blankets fills me with horror! (OH likes the idea of it all being tucked in firmly......aaaurgh).....
Twin beds?

sounds like the solutionCPB. My neighbour's husband fought long and hard against twin beds, but after getting them decided that it was definitely one of HIS better ideas. Both sleep much better, and, because of the size of the bedroom the beds are pushed against each other anyway.

Always liked duvets, use a large blanket on top in the harshness of winter to stop the edges lifting and letting those cold draughts creep in.

Oh always a duvet - a king size one on a double bed!!!
You could do what my parents have done Cheery - they have single beds pushed together so they have their own bedlinens (single duvets but mum has more blankets on her side, and they also have individually controlled electric blankets. They can still snuggle up if they want to but also have their own space.

Always a duvet, topped by a bedspread, with an electric underblanket , very light but very cosy, in fact I hate getting out of it in the morning.

We have a king-size duvet and a king-size bed !!
We've got one of those "double" quilts that has one thick quilt (9 tog) for Spring/Autumn, and a thin one (4 tog) for the summer. In the winter you can velcro them together for a to make a 13 tog one.
I'm always too warm though so most of the time I sleep half out of it and in the Summer I go weeks on end where I don't get under it at all, I just lay on top.

Cheers everybody...I like the idea of compromise. We've been sharing a duvet for 30 years so I wouldnt want to sleep without the big teddy bear! (ew...sorry ) I hate getting overheated so generally throw all the duvet over him and lay with me legs dangling out (sooo ladylike)..then wake up at 0300 FREEZING and rip the duvet off snuggled snoring OH (generally he's cocooned in it by then) causes a lot of huffing and tutting....I think he just wants me to stop fidgeting about by tying me up...(ooer missis)

I've got a thing about candlewick bedspreads, they're so handy. We have a duvet with a bedspread for chillier nights. But OH is too long and his feet stick out the bottom.

Personally I favour the following approach - get a divorce but keep your own kingsize bed and kingsize duvet - all just for you!!! I also favour the new cotton 'jersey' fabric (t-shirt material) for bedding - it's just glorious!
In fact, excuse me - I can hear it calling me... Good night, all!

We decided to invest in a superking bed....best thing we ever did....not only are we not jostling for space BUT the quilts are more generous compared to say a double or kingsize bed. Need a kingsize for a double and i would suggest a superking for a kingsize. However, the other prob we have is that i love a heavy quilt in winter say 13 tog to sleep and he likes a 7 or 8 tog as he feels the heat! Answer: two double quilts - i've got my heavy quilt for my side (double size) and he has his lighter quilt (double size) that way we are both happy! In the summer we'll go back to the one lightweight superking quilt! I must admit though i stayed in a B&B a wee while ago and they had shock horror, blankets and sheets! Years since i slept under these BUT I had the best nights sleep ever and as OH works nights sometimes, in know it was the blankets etc that made the difference.
