I have just ordered 3 Himalayan White Birch trees which I want to plant together as a feature. I think I have read that you can plant birch trees very close together, which I would like to do and also would mid-December here in France - can get pretty cold - be OK to plant them. Planted a weeping willow on Christmas Eve in the snow 10 years ago and it is thriving. Birch trees grow in Siberia so I would think it would be safe. Any suggestions?

When I started my garden it was a field/tractor dump with nothing growing in it. I planted 3 birch trees about 3 ft apart as 2 ft high babies. They are now taller than my house and absolutely beautiful. As long as it wasn't into freezing ground I should think you could plant them in Nov or Dec.
