Hello, could you please give me your opinion on this plant. What plant is it and how should I look after it?

It looks vaguely like rather unhappy looking elephant ears to me, but I can't remember the proper name I'm afraid. How big are the leaves?

I think you're right, Plocket, & the latin name is Bergenia. If it were me I'd dig it up - I loathe the stuff! It doesn't need any particular care though so if you like it it's an easy ground cover plant. www.crocus.co.uk/features2/bergenia/?

Yep....Bergenia cordata. Most Bergenia will look a bit sad now but they should start to flower in febuary and they will look a lot better in spring.
A very versatile plant that will grow in sun and shade and has lovely pink flowers in Feb.

I think they're hideous - my all time least favourite plant - they look like a sea of cabbage with pink blobs.

They thrive with regular replanting. I cut at approx 10 cm below the leaves and simply plonk it in again. They root in no time ( when the soil is moist ) and grow away as if nothing happened. When you do this every two years the plants stay healthy and will in a sunnier spot provide you with stunning winter colour ( providing the drttd frost finally kicks in ) I can understand people not liking the blooms on some but there are varieties that don't look as if a pink lollipop is growing from it. ( Bressingham white, yes you guessed it is a white one)

I didnt know I could plant it in shade, goodie, I have loads of it and have been looking for shade tolerant stuff for under the lilac tree, but will it stand the dryness in the summertime?

Yes it won't mind at all, it has a stem that looks like a rhisome so can keep going through anything. The leaves go good colours when the plant is stressed too.
