I suppose I really should elaborate. I have a beautiful pink oriental poppy (can't remember the name) that I would like to take root cuttings from. I was reading on the almanac that February is a good time to take root cuttings. I really don't want to kill it off so any advice would be appreciated.

I tried root cuttings but with no success, I have split clumps of Orientals before in the same way as any perrenial in the gdn. The pieces I split from the main plant I potted on until they had established a better root and then planted them out.

Thanks Chuckles, never tried root cuttings before but splitting might be easier.

How did you actually take the cuttings? I presume you put them in the right way up!! On the BBC site, it says Nov/Dec is the the right time for root cuttings. www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/plants/plantprofile_poppy.shtmlAs suggested, if you are having problem I would suggest split them in early spring and maybe at the same time try and get some roots from a bit you don't need and try again.
