I currently have these roses growing in the garden and in tubs: Pretty Polly Irish Eyes Margaret Merril Twice in a Blue Moon Sunny Abundance Swany Raubritter Golden Celebration Ice Cream Albertine High Flyer Warm Welcome ...and on order Souvenir de la Malmaison I don't have a huge garden and am beginning to panic. They have all been bought within the last two years, so at the moment are small. I love them all, but think I may be over run with roses this year. Blue Moon, Ice Cream, Sunny abundance and Margaret Merril are all in pots at the moment. What is the cure for a rose addiction?

O blimey what a question RM.........
When I first started with Roses I went a little mad and bunged one in where ever I had any space, which wasn't too good.
Trouble is the more roses you have, the more problems you have. BlackSpot and Co. love being where there are a lots of roses - the more the merrier.
I have cut back drastically although I still have a fair few and I have no doubt that I will not be able to resist buying another one this year. I have however become very selective throughout the years.
I think the main think is that you feel happy with the numbers that you have, in the space that is available, and that your garden looks good - just the way that you want it.
I wouldn't wish my garden on anyone - I just play by my own rules, but I am happy with it. I always think that if you plant something and it looks just right, as if it had always been there, then you are on the right track.

I have to admit I do have a few roses in the garden, (all bought for me by my children) and I have been torturing them for years as I don't have a clue about roses. There is a Many Happy Returns and a Tequila Sunrise and a Romance somewhere hiding in the undergrowth to name but a few. I really should find out how to look after them, trouble is I don't even know what type they are - any ideas where to start?
