Hi,
I repaired an area of lawn with seed which was next to a newly dug border. Unfortunately the wind blew and it spread all on my new border. Now its growing in the new bed and i really need to get rid of it. I dont really want to dig it up and it might bring more seen to the surface so can i use weed killer on it ? Will it be ok to plant after ?

Unless it is over a large area Mr. G, I would be inclined to keep turning over the border soil and hand weed out any surviving grass.
It shouldn't endure too many diggings over, being only lawn grass.

Get on your hands and knees you big tart and hand weed the border ....i can spend days hand weeding at work and find it very theraputic !!!. That's probably the best way to deal with it at the moment. I doubt whether any weedkiller would do a lot at this time of year. Best used from April onwards. Hoeing in dry spells would also be ok but the grass roots need to be exposed and they need to dry out to kill them. Good luck

Just get the Hoe on it or a Rake Mr G Best not spray it with weed killer as the wind could just as easily blow that over your plants

I know im a tart and i wanted the easy option ! Its just that its sooo wet and moment that i cant get anywhere near the effected border ! Where were the birds when you needed them ? Weeds are the bane of my life !!! All my borders are herbaceous with hardly no shrubs so they look just like bare earth in winter and spring. Course the old weeds love it and sprout continuously !! I cant really afford to mulch it as the area is so big, it would cost me a fortune !! Mr G

Hi Mr G, the grass in your border should just pull out very easily if your soil is wet. The best investment I made was a decent hoe - Wolf push pull weeder - lets you get really close to plants with out damaging them www.garden4less.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=RFM10
