I have the small variety of Solomon’s Seal and the leaves are always nibbled by something, which spoils the whole plant I have tried to look and find what it is but had no success, can anyone help. I also have the larger variety of Solomon's Seal in my garden but don't have a problem with this. I have just chopped last years leaves off and it reminded me of the problem and thought I'd ask on here if anyone knows what it could be GG

Morning GG, 'Fraid I can't help with the query (I'm new to this gardening business), just wanted to say hello and that someone will be along shortly to help. Most of them would've been tucked up with their cocoa when you posted!!! ;D Look forward to chatting soon, Skarloey.

This is damage caused by the larva of the Sawfly who REALLY love Solomons Seal. They nibble away at the edges of the leaves until there's nothing left. There are chemical solutions but the organic approach is to pick them off by hand I'm afraid! They are little grey squirmy things...

Thank you Skarloey and 4pygmies. The little monsters do ruin a lovely plant, I will have to look harder this year. They are all chopped down now and the new shoots just starting to poke through, but I'll be watching out for the little grey squirmy things

Are Sawfly the little black flies my neighbour has buzzing all round his Solomon's Seal ? He has hundreds of them and his SS is always stripped bare whereas I don't (as yet) have them on mine.

My Soloman's Seal has suffered from these blighters for a couple of years. If you don't mind pesticides, Derris works very well, but you have to make several applications. The larvae don't usually hatch until the flowers are about to open. That's the time to apply the Derris first, then on a weekly basis , or more oftern if you have a really bad infestation. Otherwise, as 4P has said, the only other way is to pick them off by hand and squish them. Good luck.

Been in the garden this weekend and noticed my Soloman's Seal are showing some lovely shoots so I will be keeping an eye out for the Sawfly larva.
