As you all know, we are having a porch built, but I have yet to decide on what flooring to have. I want something easy to clean so am leaning towards tiles or lino, but it's also got to be easy to fit because we will be doing it ourselves. The walls are probably going to be plain white but the rest of the house (except LP's room!!!) is decorated in muted yellows and greens. I do have a couple of boxes of small yellow floor tiles but am not sure whether to use them or not. Has anyone got any nice ideas of what I should have or should do?
Ta! Px

I'd go for tiles, too. Hardwearing and easy to clean. You can get a thingy that cuts them neatly which makes it easier.

Nice choice sleepy, like it. I would go Lino, you can get some really nice ones that look like stone floors and an offcut from one of these carpet warehouses would be cheaper and quicker to lay. You could then get the porch all sorted and ship shape with your plants etc

Very nice, sleepy........ was going to suggest something similar.... ;D tiling is easy plocket, just lay them out first to be sure you have the right effect before sticking them down! I did my bathroom last year, (walls and floor) so I do know what Im talking about.
I do reccomend borrowing or hiring an electric floor tile cutter, though, for perfect cuts and no waste.

Tiles - as some of the lino we have, has stretched and needs re-fitting

Nice suggestion Sleepy - I like those! I think you are right and I should go for the natural look.
I can do the tiling, it's cutting them that could be fiddly - the porch has a little niche in it. I'll have to ask my dad to help too, and he might have a tile cutter gadget - he's got loads of tools and machines.

How about laminate flooring in the pattern of tiles rather than wood. We have th terracotta style in the conservatory and it looks superb !!! I'm not keen on that - as it seems to be very slippery when wet

We are going to be using wood plank flooring through the porch/hall, with rugs to catch the muck! [I've always wanted a wooden floor in the hall]. But for a porch only I would go for vinyl tiles rather than stone. Less slippy in the wet and harder to break things on it! You have to be careful with wood and laminates whether they can handle lots of wet, so with wellies in and out it is worth considering if you go for that option.

I'm not sure about that laminate stuff Andy. It looks nice but the comments about it getting wet are valid ones so I might have to avoid that idea. I'll probably end up getting tiles!!!

Why don't you have a tiled floor but have a recess for a mat to catch the dirt? You would have to raise the floor level slightly so it might not be feasible at this stage. I have old quarry tiles on my floor in front of the door which I dug out of the concrete when we first started to turn the barn into a house! They are very practical and age really nicely. They are not everyone's taste or style though I know. I would always go for a tiled floor in an entrance hall because they are so hard wearing and easy to clean.

If it's not open to the elements, I've found fitted coir matting good - a sort of wall to wall doormat. It's 'natural', 'neutral', relatively hard wearing, does what it says on the tin and would lift out for a thorough cleaning if hoovering doesn't do it...not that I've ever got involved...

you can get laminate flooring in a tile effect that is waterproof and guaranteed for kitchens and bathrooms. I think B&Q have the range.
