Hi all,
Last year I grew three of these from cuttings. One was eaten by slugs, the other I planted out but it now seems to be dead, and the other is about 18" high in a pot, waiting for planting out. The one that died was in exactly the same soil, drainage conditions etc. as my white solanum, which is thriving (quite wet, alkaline soil, 3/4 sun). The garden has now been treated with nematodes, plus I have copper tape to surround it, so that shouldn't be an issue. I know Jennywren had a similar problem with 'Glasnevin'. If anyone has any tips on growing this successfully, I'd be really grateful ... cheers ...

I have 5 cuttings going from a white one, one has romped away and grown to about 18" already, the other 4 are stuck at about 5" high. Maybe the one that died didn't have such a strong roots system

I've just re-potted the surviver into a larger pot; its tap root was huge. Hopefully the bigger pot will enable it to develop a stronger root system, but if anyone has further advice I'd be really grateful. I have a vision of this, with its blue flowers, intertwining with my white solanum and a passionflower ... cheers ...

Oh Good Luck CC; mine looked beautiful - for a short while - just a long dead stick now - I keep looking for signs of life

Jennywren, the one I thought was dead now has new leaves and seems to be growing happily ... now I realise what is meant by 'semi-evergreen' . So, whatever you do, don't chcuk yours out ... I imagine Cheshire is a bit colder than Dublin, so yours could take a couple of weeks. Perhaps a bit of a feed might help ... cheers ...

Ooo thank u CC; there is still hope then? This is what it looked like when I planted it - it didnt seem to stay in flower very long tho - just popped out to look at it and no sign of life yet but will leave it where it is I did plant, in error, a climbing hydranga against one of my pergola posts - it looked quite dead; I moved it to a spot where it can grow up against a wall, for which it is meant to do, and lots of buds have started to appear jenny

Hi Jenny ... climbing hydrangeas are lovely, mine is still a baby but a friend has a huge one - the flowers are lovely, and turn a gorgeous pinky-beige colour when they're dead. Good luck with the solanum! ... cheers ...
