I'm designing a hot colour scheme for one end of my border. Does anyone have any ideas as to some suitable ground covering plants for the front? I'd prefer red or orange

What about some low growing ornamental grasses RM. I've got some, unfortunately I can remember varieties at this moment, but I'll have to check. They dot quite nicely in between hot colours.

What about coleus....i know they get to 12" tall but you can either have an explosion of colour with a mixed variety or try to get hold of individual colours from a seed specialists.
We use coleus all the time in bedding displays and they always do well. They grow easily and quickly from seed and love the sun !!!

I've got a "hot" bed and I'm struggling a bit with it but at the moment I have crocosmia "Lucifer", monarda (I pulled out all the pink and white ones!!), achillia (something terracotta I think), Heleniums, a purply red leaved sedum, Sedum Spurium “Ruby Mantle”, some red primulas in the more shady spots, clematis "Princess Diana", Phormium "Platts Black", Euphorbia "Excalibur" and cornus "Midwinter Fire". Japanese Blood Grass is lovely but doesn't seem to like my garden and there are some lovely geums and potentillas available too. Sorry I got carried away - the small Sedum Spurium "Ruby Mantle" is nice, but you can't beat geums and potentillas for sort of ground cover.
