I got home tonight to find 'workmen' repairing a fencepost for my next door neighbours had cut my 5yr old Honeysuckle down to ground level. Literally. Their note through the letterbox said, B*lls, standing water their side had rotted the post. (...The Honeysuckle was intertwined through some of the fence which is chainlink...) Before I chuck my teddy out of my pram, I was wondering whether it will shoot/sprout again. Or is it terminal? I've the inclination but not the time for a dispute with them. ... Apparently another neighbour phoned the Police tonight because the 14yr old daughter was kicking a football against cars purposely... The worst thing about this is that I have to fork out for a quick fix of fencing panels and posts that will be greatly inflated in price to production costs. But worth it if my Honeysuckle will recover

Not a nice situation at all! However, assuming they cut it cleanly, then it should regenerate but with much more vigour from the lower stems than before.

Sounds to me as if your Honeysuckle was all that was holding his fence up! I don't think you need to worry about it though - I have a monster Honeysuckle which I shear at the roots at least once a year which grows miles as soon as I turn my back!

I would agree with the indestructable camp - there is one here that was taken down to about a foot and had a stem as thick as your arm - to get access to some rickety stonework.
Two years later it has grown back (just looked) to cover an area about the size of a double garage front and on this lovely spring morning is covered with bees.

Some folk the nerve of them. You did best not to get into a dispute WB. As everyone has said...it will grow back and maybe better for the haircut

Thanks for that everyone ... I feel a bit better now.
I can see myself really falling out with these neighbours tho'. Kids with no respect for anyone, parents who don't give a s**t. But I will cross that bridge when it's due knowing I've got the full backing of our small estate ;D
At least my Honeysuckle will live to fight another day!!
