My son and DIL took Lily to see the Physiotherapist today and in my son's words were told she has 'a sprinkling of Cerebal Palsy'. Lily is crawling and standing but has a weakness in her left ankle so she will not be able to walk properly without help. She is having a special pair of shoes made for her and will be having regular sessions of physiotheray and hopefully everything will sort itself out. She is about 19 months old now and was born 3 months early - apparently there is a 50% chance of prem babies having cerebal palsy to one degree or another. My son has told me not to google as I would be worried and frightened by what I read. The physiotherapist didn't refer Lily back to the Specialist and doesn't seem overly concerned so I will take heart from that and try not to be worried even though I am. Thankyou for listening

I just cut this from SCOPES website, take heart, if 1 in 400 babies are born with this, and it can be treated, then I should think she is in expert hands.
correct treatment from an early age can ease the effects of cp. Occasionally children who appear to have cp lose the signs as they get older. Most importantly, having a disability does not mean that someone cannot lead a full and independent life.
Pam I can only imagine how you must be feeling, and all I can do is offer support, and understanding. From the gist of the website, it would appear that your Grandaughter has the mildest form. Best wishes,

Oh Pam that is sad news. Your son is right though don't google, like all these things you can read too much and worry even more unnecessarily, and all cases are going to be different so don't go there. She is still very young and with the physio and special shoes at a young age hopefully everything will sort itself out. BusyBee

I really don't know how to answer this Pam having never been in the situation, but it seems that your granddaughter has been to see the right people, at an early age, and they are positive about the situation. I know you have a lot of things worrying you at the moment but don't let this one get to you. You have a happy and healthy granddaughter, who should lead a long and happy life, so do your best to think positively. And don't forget that we are always here to listen and try to help.

Thankyou so much for your comments - it really helps.
Lily is such a scrumptious little girl - I know in my heart she will be O.K but she has had a rough start in life - I do realise it could have been a lot worse and we do count our blessings and we will stay positive
Love Pam x

Pam
I can't add a lot to what's already been said. I know a friend of ours has a son with CP. His is quite severe but he still walks, talks, rides a bike, plays footie & goes to school. He's also a superb athlete and has won gold medals at British and World Junior paralympic championships.
It's not wonderful news but it's not all doom and gloom either.
Regards FA x
