I have aquired a small Campsis (trumpet vine). I've never grown them before due to their rampant growth and huge size. I did give one to my neighbour a few years back and every year, it reaches the house roof before dying back in winter.
Has anyone grown them before and kept it short....eg like a wisteria can be....and they've still flowered. I have a 6' fence panel but don't really want it getting any taller and it would be a waste of time growing it if it didn't flower.
Ta muchly in advance

i grew one from seed about 6yr ago. it's in a container so it's never grown very big, but it never flowered either. i can't decide if i should throw it onto the spare ground behind us and see what happens to it

Hello Andy, We have a campsis on our fence and it flowers every year! In the Spring OH rubs some of the buds off so that it can't go too mad and also prunes it hard back at the end of the Summer. Probably not by the book but it works for us! The Campsis is just above the bench!

Hi Andy,
I had one years ago and after doing everything the book told me to do in pruning (Spring) and the right fertilizer etc etc. - it died on the third year and never flowered.
Not trying to put you off as Isabella's look gorgeous. I agree though - do what you feel is right.
