Hi all,
I have a pack of canna seeds, and the instructions say to sow them in February ... but since they naturally start shedding seed around now, would it make sense to sow them in the next couple of weeks? Anyone done this? ... cheers ...

The thing is CC is that cannas are not native to the UK so in effect, they don't have a "natural" seeding time like our indiginous plant species do.
Most people who grow "exotics" from seed sow them in late winter/early spring so they can make use of the extra warmth and more natural day length.
Never grown them from seed but they may benifit from scarification (lightly abrading the seed coat to allow water in ) and then soaking for 24 hours.

I've scarified them and they're currently soaking prior to sowing in an unheated mini-propagator on the windowsill - any other tips, anyone??? ... cheers ...

I have sown them--but they are on the Kitchen windowsill (No greehouse) Nothing has come up yet!! I might end up having to buy a Plant from the GC-- Will let you know if I see signs of like from them!

Mine are also on the windowsill, Biggles, so give them a few more weeks - I'm really hoping a few of these turn out to be purple/bronze-leaved. Yummy ... cheers ...

How are they doing, Biggles? The third one is up, a week after the first two, so I think they may be a bit erratic ... but it's definitely cheaper than buying the plants (and much more fun ;D) ... cheers ...
