I know that leaving some plants to go to seed doesn't make the garden look its best but its a great way to make new plants for free. So far I've collected; white cosmos white foxgloves (sown and potted them on) crocosmia lucifer salvia's viola's sunflowers rudbekia dhalia petunia poppies nasturtiums (before the caterpillars ate them too ) And I'm just getting started - saved myself a bob or 2 already ;D What are you saving for next year ?

Well, you have inspired me! I usually let my Foxgloves just set seed, but I collect Hellebores, and that is usually all. Must have a look tomorrow I'm more of a cuttings person, though i haven't made a start on that yet

I'm fascinated by seed heads WT. I broadcast seeds as well as saving them but then end up with things all over the place that need digging out. When you think how much GC's charge for plants that grow like weeds - I need to change my job

At the moment I have collected some seed heads from my New Zealand flax. (Potted them up) Viola. (4 colours) Papavers. Californian Poppies. Fuchsia. Aqualegia. Red Pepper. Clematis (dont know the name) ???I didnt know that you could collect seeds from Petunia's will have to look out as I have some nice white ones and purple ones. Do you keep the flower heads on instead of taking them off to collect the seeds? Also when do you sow the Clematis seeds? Thanks Carol.

Yes, JLottie, like £5.99 for an Alchemilla When I found my Hellebore seedlings, I pictured every one of them with a £7.99 tag attached

i have some double orange poppies which are just about to flower .if they are as good as i remember the picture being i will save those. i am saving my californian poppies as i bought the usual orange seeds this year and they have flowered a lovely dark burnt orange colour instead so i will save those. i have cosmos seashells and will save lots of those as i have really enjoyed them. i think thats it for now.
i have lots of other things that i just leave to sow themselves like callendula, nasturtiums and lychnis coronaria.they are great space fillers.

Dwarf red zinnia, pink opium poppy, petunia, big double bizzie Lizzie, primula, (planted & up), I missed the hellebores, they will grow themselves though, crinodendron, Balm of Gilead, a mixture of grasses, I need to climb to get the New Zealand flax & the Cabbage palm before the birds, tall cat mint. There will be lots more because I can't let them go to waste.

My New Zealand Flax didn't produce any flower stalks this year but one is definitely enough for me I have enough opium poppy seeds to go into mass cultivation Carol I just cut the growing tips off the petunias and left them to their own devices, there are lots of little seed pods behind the flowers
