After my success with the Passion Flower cuttings I thought I would show you just a few other bits that I've managed to get going. Can't tell you the names of some of them because I'm terrible at labelling them My attempts are very hit and miss but it's fun, you do sometimes need to be patient though. Maybe you have some you could share I've never had much luck with Lavander although I know others find it easy. I'm well chuffed with my attempts this time Think these are a french one Fernleaf Jasmine from Hols, it's a shrub type and I think it's called Cestrum nocturnum - Night Blooming Jasmin I have 3 cuttings going from 5 I took. This is from a web site I'm almost sure it's the same as mine An Abutulon from a friends old house. This is 1 of 4 cuttings I took last April, 3 took and I'm really pleased it has flowered this year. Gave one to my friend for her new house. These Rose cuttings were just stuck in a pot earlier this year when I did some pruning there were 6 and 3 now have new growth so thats a good sign. This is another Rose cutting from Hols it's now 21 months old and has a bud on it. Just a few other odd bits I've stuck in a pots that have taken Fushia, Osteospurnum and ? ? ? medium sized shrub that has heads of small pink flowers and ? ? ? Evergreen has prickly leaves and small yellow flowers that hang under the leaves.

Your pale yellow leaved mystery plant looks/sounds like Spiraea Japonica Gold Mound Chuckles. As for the prickly leaved yellow flowered evergreen, I would guess that this is probably a variety of Berberis.

I don't have any idea what the mystery plant is Chuckles but you have done a grand job. The cuttings have really grown well - not always easy is it.
I'd love to see that rose bud when it opens - any chance of a peek later?

Hi RF, you been on lunch break too As you say it's not always easy but I just love it when something grows from a cutting. They are even more special if they have a connection to them, like from a holiday place or somewhere you have visited , or a friends house or even something you've bought that you particularly like and want more. That rose is from my hols and I have a photo of the original somewhere, I'll sort it out. In actual fact the original is from a cutting too. It's one of those Roses that seems to have thorns everywhere and is an absolute bitch if it gets you, btw I call it the bitch because I haven't a clue what it's real name is ;D Will look out photo's and post later

Congratulations, Chuckles, those look like very healthy plants. It's a great feeling when something takes - I've got a few solanums and fuchsias now in flower which were cuttings not long ago! Cheers ...

I wish I could do cuttings Dear April, If you haven't had success with cuttings, I'm sure you must just have chosen the wrong plant. Some are easier than others. I find Fuchsias, Penstemons, Phlox, Phygelius and many more herbaceous plants root very easily, as do Dianthus, especially if you put them into sharp sand. For the others, I use a 50/50 mix of sharp sand and multipurpose compost. I also use hormone rooting powder if I have it. Have another try. If it works you may become a cutting junkie like me!

I mostly do cuttings of clematis with varying success. I'm learning which ones take well and which ones don't anyway As Weedorcas says, just have a go Aprilaydee

I have a napeta cutting that I had from the B&B we stayed at in Devon...it's tiny but doing OK. Of the several passifora cuttings I took only one is still alive and that's been attacked by snails..*&$**!.. I've taken some French Tarragon cuttings for Rita too ;D

I'm soooooooooo pleased I'm not the only cutting crazy woman. Good fun in't it ;D CPB don't it just make you feel nice when you have something from somewhere that you've been. Fond memories I've got a couple of Nepeta cuttings. Brill about the Penstemons CC. When I cut mine back I have to stop myself or I'd be overun with cuttings. Today I potted on 8 Clem cuttings that have taken out of 18 they were just bits I cut off earlier in the year and stuck in. I think it's this one called Lagoon I hate throwing good cutting material in the compost bin though ;D Happy cuttings

I finally took some cuttings yesterday - Clematis early sensation Clematis alpina blue dancer Thymus serpyllum albus Lavandula stoechas leucantha Potentilla fruticosa hopleys orange Berberis thunbergii aurea Chaenomeles speciosa nivalis Rosa altissimo I know I'm a bit later than I should be doing the clems and a bit earlier doing the rose, but it's the first chance I've had this year, & may be the last, so I wanted to do all I could while I was there. Anyway, had to stop at that point as I ran out of time (& pots : but if I do get more time I want to try & do some Forsythia before we move - for some reason I've never been able to get it to take - really irritating as it's supposed to be dead easy.

Well done with the Penstemon CC. I know what you mean about that self-satisfied buzz ;D Wonder how everyone else has done with there cuttings. This is how some of my cuttings look now, Lavendar, Jasmine, Roses. To give you and idea on height, the Jasmine in the middle is about 2ft high. Below are the same ones taken in June Lavander Jasmine Roses

Those look great, Chuckles ... how are your passionflower and solanums doing?
I've a couple of yellow-leaved jasmine cuttings currently rooting in water before potting them up and putting them in the mini-GH, two reasonably happy phygelius cuttings (spelling? - cape fuchsia), some real Solanum Glasnevins this time, more penstemons, and a couple of Solanum Alba cuttings which I'm doing for a friend ... am reasonably optimistic that I'll get them through the winter now that I have the mini-GH rather than my vegetable-crate-and-bubble-wrap contraption. Only problem is, I'm addicted to taking cuttings and sowing seeds - and my garden is so tiny I don't have room for all the plants - and I only have one (yes, one) gardening friend who'll take them off my hands ... cheers ...

Solanium and Passion Flowers all doing well thanks CC, various rates of growth on each, some seem to be going mad and others are dormant. Hate to tell you this CC but .............................. I think you got the cuttings bug ;D It's very rewarding though and I probably break every cuttings rule in the book when I do mine

How are the cuttings going so far with the cold snaps of weather we've been having CC. I foolishly forget about my Night Blooming Jasmine/Cestrum nocturnum cuttings, they have got slightly frosted Had to snip the main tips off today and have now popped them in the Poly. One is planted in the garden so I really need to keep an eye on it and maybe put fleece over it on frosty nights or dig it up and put it on a pot. I could have cried when I saw them

Hi Chuckles ... they're all doing fine so far, and one of the Penstemons had grown so large by last week that I planted it out to save space in the mini-GH (covered it with fleece, though). Sorry for your frost-bite, but hopefully they'll recover ;D ... cheers ...

I took some leaf cuttings from my begonia 'escargot' in the autumn...and they seem to be taking ...I've got one with teeny tiny baby leaves on it and the other leaf segments (cut into triangles and pushed into the compost) all have roots ;D
