Hi all,
I thought we could start a thread on seed successes and failures: which seeds were particularly successful this year? And which will you not bother with again?
I sowed Eccremarcarpus and Malva Magic Hollyhock in the spring and they've been fantastic - the Eccremarcarpus has covered a wall (literally) and is still flowering, as is the Malva. Also successfully sowed Lupins, although they were subsequently munched by slugs. Cerinthe Purprescens was also sown in the spring and turned out beautifully. Hollyhock 'Coffee Single' was ridiculously easy to germinate and grow on, although I won't know about the flowers until next year.
Failures included Bergenia - which germinated but not much else -Himalayan Blue Poppy (sorry, can't remember the spelling) and Verbena Bonariensis.
So - what were your successes and failures this year? Cheers ...

Well my big success was growing tomatoes for the 1st time from seed, still cropping some luck with mixed leaves and rocket. Have had a wonderful screen of sunflowers some of which are still blooming and had success with some but not all of the stock, aqulegia and sweet william. Have had very little luck with basil and my coriander did'nt do well either. My sweet pea did well and I'm hanging on to the last of them although they have gone mouldy at the bottom. Hope to try so much more next year, now I've found these boards with lots of advice.

Hiya LNG ... I've never once managed to grow a healthy basil plant from seed - all I get is mingy miserable little things - and this year my coriander and lettuce bolted - but I think that may have been down to the warm wet weather ... cheers ...
