I tend to just tuck mine away in a fairly sheltered part of the garden and let them be, watering them occasionally so that the bulbs don't totally dry out. I'm not sure if that's best practice or not though!

I've tucked a few of mine away too P like you I'm not sure what is best. I've been debating about wether mine are deep enough and will they flower as well again next year. Everyone seems to have varied results don't they. I'm afraid I'm toooo tight to throw mine away and get new bulbs each year ;D What I'll probably do is, later in the year de pot them and plant them up in some fresh compo and see if I can get them a bit deeper.

It seems as though I have a bit of a problem - well not a problem exactly - a puzzle. Like a lot of people do, when my hyacinths that I had in a pot had flowered, I put them outside - well bunged them in a corner actually and forgot all about them. On the search for the dustpan and brush that was nicked I came across them again - however they now look like this. In all the years that I have been gardening I have never seen Spring bulbs come back in the summer without having a frost first. I wonder if they will flower. RF

RF mine are doing the same! Noticed the other day that they have growth on them. Does this mean they'll be too kn**kered to flower in the Spring?

This is what I am afraid of Ruthie - when you think that they rejuvenate during the summer - well normally.... I have never seen this before.
Should we feed them, and if so, well with what??

I must check what mine are doing. I think I put them in bigger pots and put them outside, up the side of the GH I think Where they new ones RF, coz I'm just wondering if they were forced into flower before and have got all out of sorts. I'd feed them with whatever you normally feed them with and look forward to some early flowers ;D My pots of tulips are at the side of the shed too, I musn't forget those either. One lot need putting in a deeper pot.

The bulbs were new last autumn Chuckles and flowered beautifully.
I honestly never feed my bulbs normally except that that they get a bit of whatever fertilizer I throw around the garden in the spring. I don't have bulbs in pots really - only the odd one or two.
I think if they flower again they will have to have something or it will finish them off.

Must sort out all my pots that have Tulips, Daffs etc in. They are hidden away in all sorts of places around the garden Some of the new Tulips I bought last year were not in very big pots, hope I can remember whats in what. Oh and I must remember to clear out the back of the poly to put my Lily pots over winter too. Next trip to the GC I want to get some Ballerina Tulips too, Plockets LP had some last year and I loved them. P are LP's in a pot or the garden I can't remember now

I'm going to plant my gladioli in pots....as an experiment. Cheery did you have any luck with your gladioli experiment, I'll try them next year in pots if you had success Well I've still not sort my Tulips, Paper Whites and Daffs out that are still sat in the pots from last year, hope they have kept ok with all the wet we've had this year. They'll need purking up with some fresh compo I guess. Just remembered there are a couple of small pots with Snowdrops in too and some of those little daffs, the name of which has slipped my mind Didn't get any of the Ballerina tulips

Mine too-- I just put some more compost over the top of them in case there is a frost.
The weather has been topsy-turvy so I think the plants are all confused! ;D

I would'nt worry about them showing through. Once we enter a cold spell they'll slow down a bit anyhow. Tulips like the cold. Chuckles you'll most likely find good roots growing. I was amazed when I planted my hyacinth weeks ago and had to change their pot a couple of weels later. The roots were growing like crazy in only a couple of weeks. I'll be very interested to see how last years tulips do this year.

Cheery, did you do coz I'd thought about some in pots just found this and am very tempted to go for the 150 www.vanmeuwen.com/times/plant/34010I lost all my Paper Whites that I'd had in pots, didn't survive the winter Some of my Tulips haven't done as well as last year either and I'm going to plant them in the garden once they've gone over a bit, they had lovely healthy leaves but very small flower buds which sort of went all soft and limp looking, some have been fab though. I've got some Alliums in pots that will be shortly in flower and I've fetched my 2 pots of Eucomis out of the shed and given them a drink and feed.

I grow loads of bulbs in pots as otherwise they'd get lost in the weeds I tried Alliums in pots but was told by an expert grower that they do better in the ground, and actually she has been proven right - those I planted in pots haven't done anything like as well in succeeding years......and the ones in the ground are holding their own against the weeds! I just have to take care when I'm attacking the nettles etc that I leave the big thick leaves alone............... ;D

What a bonus NO - all those baby bearded irises. Are you going to keep the small daff bulbs - hopefully they will flower in a few years?

Found this info NO:
After flowering the leaves should be left untouched for as long as possible as they are building up energy within the bulb for next years flower. They should be left for 6 weeks after flowering and as a general rule nothing should be cut down before the 1st of June. Feeding the daffodil bulbs from time to time with potash fertiliser, sulphate of potash or wood ash (about 2oz per square metre) is beneficial but little or no nitrogen is required. Fertiliser is best applied Autumn or very early Spring.
I usually scatter any granule type of fertiliser I have in the shed at this time of year and dig it in a bit if possible - very scientific!
