My garden is taking a right bashing from this windy weather, we are quite high up and yesterday I thought something didn't look right when I went up tp check the poly kennel I had a lovely Ceanothus growing in front of the PK, and over the last couple of years I'd trimmed the bottom out and the higher branches were beginning to look like a giant bonsai. It was at the back of the brush wood screen which along with the Ceanothus gave winter protection to the black pots you can see and loads of other pots I hve hiding there and it screened off some of my mess beyond and the PK. Well all that is left of it now is the branch on the bench. Damm wind has whipped through and all 3 branches got snapped off

Oh, that made me give a sharp intake of breath What a disaster Wind is so awful, isn't it? I haven't suffered too badly, but all my hellebores are looking very dirty and woebegone with rain spatter. Won't harm them though. Hope your shrub survives.

Oh NO that's awful. Take cuttings of the ceanothus though Chuckles - they take quite well. (Can you believe mine's got a flower on it??? )

I'm so sorry Chuckles. It breaks my heart when something like that happens It will probably regenerate from the bottom but, I know, that it's little consolation. S x

So sorry Chuckles. I haven't daredgo out in the garden today. I am still dreading that my mini greenhouse will be blown over again!
Take the good advice from Plocket and take cuttings of your ceanothus. I have a beautiful example in my garden which was already there when I moved in 2006.

Oh Bugger. Don't you just hate it when that happens. 1st and then like Amo said... and come up with something new for that area. Go for it Chuck. A garden is all opportunities. ( even the ones you feel you can do without )

Sorry for you Chuckles I've had to tie my jasmine onto the garage guttering - OH will not be happy if the weight of it pulls the guttering off - but didn't know how else to stop it waving about Tig

Feel so much better about my disaster today after reaing all your comments , thanks you guys Espescially loved the "RIGHT young lady" ;D I'll definately be taking some cuttings ;D and that area does need a tidy/revamp really. Behind the brush wood are 2 upturned calvanised dustbins with 2 lengths of decking on the top, thats what the black pots are sat on. The ground below is covered in pots of stuff that I've split up for planting later, cuttings, last years plants grown from seed, pots of bulbs etc etc. It is a real good place to hide stuff away. I'll have to get the stump out because if it did re grow all it would do is take up the ground area that I use for storing pots. The wind really does get my garden bad, we are high anyway and as you can see to the left of the photo my Poly is at the same height as next doors garage roof I guess I'm not the only one who has had losses of one kind or another with this awful weather.

Rotten when you lose well established plants isn't it! But, on the brighter side and as has been said, it's a planting opportunity ;D We've been lucky so far. Only a bit of trellis broken but it did have honeysuckle growing through it but that has survived. So there's another little project for the spring!
