I keep seeing adverts for Spam. Does anyone actually eat the stuff, and would you serve it for a special occasion, as suggested in the ad?

I'm afraid I'm like the poor er....'Lady'... in the Spam Sketch.
I Don't Like Spam!!!
I suppose if I had nothing else to eat, but even then I would have to be desperate.
Seriously though for a moment, I have heard that Spam is making something of a comeback, principally because a whole generation have probably never heard of it. I suppose it scores as a convenience food as there is virtually no preparation, other than opening the tin.
Spam fritters seems to ring a bell, going back a few years. No doubt there are many other spam possibilities.

I got an urge for a spam moment a while ago. Had it grilled as part of a mixed grill dish. Quite tasty! Though deadly!!!

I obviously haven't seen the advert but I don't think that I would want it for an anniversary dinner.
In my bedsit days I used to eat a lot of Spam - easy and cheap and fattening.
250 grams Pasta Tin of Spam Bacon bits Onion Beaten egg Pepper Mixed Herbs or Italien seasoning.
Boil the Pasta and rinse it off.
Fry Spam, Onion and Bacon bits gently together - add Black Pepper and Herbs. Add Pasta and beaten egg and toss until the egg has set. Serve and sprinkle with Parsley.

When there are so many other, good, healthy, well bred cuts of meat out there, why bother with a squished together lump of all the leftovers squished in a tin? YUCK!

So what is Spam made of then? I'm totally ignorant of the stuff!!! ;D I always thought that Spam was an acronym for Spiced H am and Pork. Wikipedia's article throws a little more light on the situation... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_%28food%29

Ahh, but proper corned beef that they do in Ireland, as Canarycreeper could probably tell you, is a totally different kettle of meat! The floor scrapings that come in a tin, however.....

Himself loves Spam fritters from the chippy I cant abide the stuff even the smell of it make me gip. I dont mind corned beef in a meat and potato pie or a sarnie, but it gives me hideous indigestion so I dont eat it much. Tinned meat is a bit of a no no really tho - most of it is the sweepings up off the floor. The lads I work with all like Pek (sort of spam with jelly) and it smells really nice but its not that special! They used to have Pek days when they all had it in their sarnies........sometimes you just have to wonder ;D
