Hi I'm posting this here as it's not really gardening related as such... Anyway, I just bought a rose from woolies called 'Waltz Time'. The picture on the box is a bright purple/blue Now, I know that there is no such thing as a blue rose, and the description of it is 'mauve with silver'. Just curious, but isn't false advertising illegal? If I actually expected my rose to be blue, I'd end up quite disappointed

All they'll say is that the colour on the box can in no way represent the true colour of the rose due to limitations with technology/how the ink turns out on the box etc etc etc.
As long as they don't say on the box "this rose is blue" knowing it to be untrue then it's OK as far as I know.

Do not trust Woolies roses! I made the mistake of buying two reduced ones - one climbing and one bush. They were both supposed to be purple - only one has flowered and it is a pale pinkish yellow. I have no idea what variety it is! I have 2 "blue" roses - blue moon and twice in a blue moon and they are pale mauve. PJ

I also made the mistake of buying reduced roses from Woolies. They never recovered

I have moved this to Gardening Chat as I find it rather an interesting gardening topic - are all "cheap" Roses/plants bad quality??
When I first started growing Roses I bought some from Aldi here in Germany and I was annoyed from the start that my Red climbing rose was indeed a white bush rose. However I did find out that the roses that went to Aldi to be sold came from Poland from a good breeder and although they weren't what it said on the packet, they were hardy plants.
I get loads of Rose catalogues in the year and so many of the pics have obviously been touched up with some photo software.
I wonder where Woolworths get their Roses from..

I thought roses bought at a non garden center usually are a hit and mis risk. But as you get them cheap they can be worth the risk. As for flowering. I always buy in pot and in flower. Only time I did not I ended up with a lovely low shrub rose with soft pink flowers and a delightful smell. I was expecting a Queen Elizabeth but got a much nicer one at half price. I did not go back to complain ;D
