Many, many years ago, well about 20, I came across this little gem and have been using it ever since. My kids were brought up on it. In fact my daughter had to give a talk recently and gave away the recipe (she can do it in her sleep) as part of the talk and so it is out there again, going down very well too! Right, these should usually be in your store cupboard: - For super silly 5 minute sponge pudding 4oz Self Raising Flour 4oz sugar 4oz margarine 1 egg shake of baking powder splash milk Put all ingredients into a microwaveable bowl like a pyrex 8 inches across and 3 inches deep, this does rise so similar size is good. Beat the hell out of the mix until smooth and lighter in colour, about 1 minute. Put the bowl in the microwave for 5 minutes and that's it. You can change this recipe loads too. My fave is using 1oz of cocoa powder with pecan nuts. OH likes a spotted dick version ( ) with dried fruit but I have used almost anything, rumtopf fruit, stewed apple etc. Now go and try secretly or with others, it works and it's great for those sweet urges.

Ooo I've made a note Amo - the problem is that LP is the only one in the house who eats puddings

I really do hate to say this but that sounds gorgeous.......just a quick question if I may...
We don't have self-raising flour here so I will have to use baking powder - how much do you think I should use with the "shake" thrown in?

No SR Flour Erm... A shake is about half a teaspoon so perhaps a one and a half? This is really a mess around recipe that is really quite robust. I've even made it with no eggs just extra milk before. Your just after a sponge cake/pudding texture. If you're not young, pregnant or at risk, it's quite nice just slightly under cooked and you get the gooey middle bit. It really is that quick and well worth keeping cartons of custard in or a bit of ice cream.

True Amo but off the top of my head we don't get - Pies, Pork Pies, Bacon, Fish and Chips, Mint Sauce, Single Cream, Double Cream, Cream Crackers, English Cheese, Pickles, Marmite, Tea, Crumpets, Gammon, Ham...........
Things like Mint Sauce I make myself but it was always nice to be able to fall back on a jar of it.
I can do á swop if you like ;D

Sorry only just seen this - I love marmite......my nephew (German) loves it on a thick slice of bread and butter with a fried egg on top.... even I can't do that.
Karlslass - it is a case of when in Rome. I was in the UK for about 2 months a couple of years ago and I found myself missing things that we can only get here.
However some lovely bacon and fish and chips....ooooooo yes please.

My dad has been making these for years, sponge duff we call it. Or Jam duff or plum duff depending on what's on top. He puts jam for example on the bottom of the bowl so that when it's turned out, it's on the top and is hotter than the sun.
