Biggest bulb I've ever seen RF - it hasn't been planted yet, I note that is may not flower until it is established, and the leaves can look tatty late in the season, so I might put it in a fairly large container with a few other bulbs and bedding for added interest this year. Tig

Well I suppose it would be ideal in the garden but it can't stay there so a tub it will have to be. I had thought of getting another couple next year (this year if I can sneak them by my OH) and making a good show - even if it is only leaves for this year.

Lidl had their bulbs in, so, of course I had to purchase. Nothing unusual, but I bought Sparaxis, Acidanthera, Gladiolus , Dutch Iris and more Anemone. Where the hell am I going to put them? That is nearly 50 Gladioli now, and they are so difficult to position But they are all pink and lilac, and I couldn't resist.

Well we went out today and just happened to be in a newly openly place - rather like B & Q in the UK and they just happened to have loads of things on offer ...sooooo I got some more Tigridia - I do hope we don't start getting people on the board called Begonia or Dahlia - I know what will happen. Also 2 Helleborous and Leucocoryne bulbs which I had never heard of but the flowers look rather nice. www.easytogrowbulbs.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=897Has anyone ever had them before? I was also given - Yes given a White Iris Ensata as the white one that I bought last year turned out to be purple and also a couple of packets of seeds. RF

I have planted the crinum powellii in a large container today because it had a 2" shoot growing , with 2 white asiatic lilies, 2 white spider lilies, 10 acidanthera and 10 sparaxis all in the pot. The other 20 acidanthera are in the borders.

So I gone and done it again - red hanging begonias to go with the the new hanging basket I bought, - well two - had to get one for the yellow hanging ones that my OH bought.
Also Crocosmia Lucifer - mad I am because I honestly don't know where I am going to put them.....I also seem to remember someone saying something negative about them but I can't remember what...

RF, surely nobody would say anything negative about any Crocosmia? They have to be some of the best plants ever: I have two clumps of plain old roadside montbretia which are already up - lovely fresh green grassy spikes - and the other week planted some of the 'large-flowered' mixture from Lidl. I don't know whether you have to lift them in Germany; otherwise they are unbelievably trouble free ;D ;D ;D I'm hoping for a late summer display of the large-flowered ones, red and orange Cannas and Malva 'Magic Hollyhock' ;D ... cheers ...

I used to have Crocosmia years ago and got fed up of having to take them out each Autumn and then one year decided that I would leave them in........well that was the end of them. Then last year some people posted some fantastic photos of "Lucifer", so I decided it was worth a go again....annnnnddddd...just as it happens I also have 3 Magic Hollyhocks growing very well - no Cannas but a lovely blue annual Clematis that just could make the picture complete.

Twas me about Lucifer!!! Me, me!!!
Not too negative, it is beautiful but quite short lived in the flower. I put mine right in a poke 'em in the eye place and they look great but they are quite tall and then they have huge seed pods all in a seemingly short time. I'm going to move mine so they come up through something else as a brightener rather than a stand alone.
I do love crocosmeas and I've been looking like mad for some decent corms. They are star performers and most of them are long flowering and the leaves are quite nice too.

I'll keep my eye out for that one then! Seen some lovely bronze to yellow ones. I've found lots of places that are selling the plants but I wanted the corms really. How easy is it to grow a crocosmea, I mean I can be extravagant sometimes but most of the time I'm stingey and want loads for my money ;D I think that's a gardeners trait though.

Like the rest of you, I am beyond redemption when it comes to yielding temptation. Went out for compost, came back with a Dahlia and another bag of Gladioli. But the colours. Beautiful deep red/purple. Where the hell................................

It's an affliction WT isn't it ;D Planted most of mine this afternoon, but I disturbed some I only planted last week, trying to squash put them in the right places, it is more difficult because of all the spring bulbs that are in flower or bud. Never mind, when the daffs, tulips, etc, go over there'll be room for some bedding x Tig

I have just planted up the hanging Begonias - should have done it a couple of weeks ago but I forgot!!
The red ones were 2.49 Euro and had three in the bag and the yellow ones were 1.99 Euro and had 4 in the bag and were bigger and better quality than the more expensive ones!!

I popped down to Homebase to get some bits. Well popped isn't the right word when it's a 30 mile round trip but I had my driving head on I also ( : picked up a 30 plant tray of Impatiens down to £1.49 coz one was missing and another of Lobelia also reduced. They also had the sweetpeas down to 49p a pot. Well, I couldn't leave them there. Their terracotta pots were 99p so I bought some of those to pop the tulip pots in to stop them blowing over. On the way back the nearer GC yelled at me to stop too. For around the wildlife puddle I bought: - Euonymus Emerald Gaiety " " Harlequin " " Kewensis Leucothoe Rainbow Leucothoe with very dark purple leaves Spiraea Gold Fountain White tree peony Hosta August Moon some large rocks Similar terracotta pots were £2.49 here so I'm glad I bought them at the DIY instead! ;D

I left 5 Begonias in the hanging basket they grew in last year, kept them dry and frost free all winter. Today I remebered them Thought I might find the odd one shooting, no shoots visible and when I removed them from the basket 2 of them had gone all dry and wrinkly, in other words they had popped thier cloggs The 2 new white pendular ones I bought a few weeks ago have some nice little shoots on them already. All are now sat nestled in damp compo to try and encourage them on before I plant the basket up again. Wonder why 2 popped off on me.

I lost all my hanging begonias from last year Chuckles - they were really expensive as well. I do wonder if it is worth it. Oddly enough it is only ever the hanging ones that I lose - the others are fine.
I am slowly having nightmares about where I am going to put everything - is it possible - or a bit stupid to put Crocosmia Lucifer into a tub?
I will have to lift them in autumn anyway as they won't last the winter.
