my solanum has been flowering very well against a wall and I've always pruned to short spurs, but it is 9ft tall now and getting a bit bare low down on the shrub. If I cut some of the stems near to ground level will they grow again.

Hi Beanie ... the advice I have is to cut it down to three feet above the ground when it starts getting unruly ... cheers ...

many thanks C.C. off with it's head then. I was worried I might kill it and then end up having to dig it out.

I hope my Solanum cuttings grow as well and strong as yours has CC. I'm really hoping they spring into life this year, they are coming up to 2 yrs old now. Must remember to trim them to keep them from going bare at the bottom and part way up, it's a mistake I make with climbers and a regular trim does reep the benefits of a bushiers healthier looking plant:)

They will, chuckles, 2 years was when mine took off. Unfortunately, I didn't know about trimming them, so my Triffidus has 'bare legs' (last year I grew sweetpeas up her legs) ... cheers ...
