Hopefully mods/admin can leave this in here for a while. On tuesday night, i had a text from a friend up the road who said he was getting rid of his "turtles" and would i like to take them to work and put them in the pond. If i didn't take these "turtle", they'd now be freezing to death in the river ouse which runs through our town. So i got them home, put them in a spare tank with a heater and somewhere to sit out on. Unfortunately, these creatures require a heat lamp, a UV lamp and pretty decent filteration....all of which i can't give them. They are infact red eared sliders (terrapins). male and female and about 5-6" from head to tail. But i need to get rid of them. No pet shop is allowed to sell them apparently and the local animal rescue centre has too many. So if anyone wants this pair and can provide them with the correct conditions, their free to collector. Andy

More animals I'd love to home but can't I hope someone can help you Andy. Sadly I'm too far away and don't have the set up. I have the enthusiasm and willing, just not the funds!

They're the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that have been madly bought, got board with and released all over the UK. Sadly most don't survive. Also sadly some do and are ruining local eco systems. Bit of a pig in a poke there Andy. Good luck with re homing them, they didn't ask for this silly craze to come about again.

Hi Andy, I have two of them. Most people want rid of them when they grow. Mine are the size of dinner plates now, but, strangely I actually do love them. I have found this link, so here is an e-mail and phone number of a Terrapin Rescue Centre
terrapinrescue@waitrose.com 01730 892790
To be honest, I have decided that if I ever cannot look after them, which is possible as they could live till I am 100, I am going to have them put down if a rescue centre won't take them. They do have basic requirements and I would be afraid that someone might not look after them properly.
If you change your mind, and decide to keep them, I have a regime which makes them very simple to look after, as long as you have room for a large tank. I have sited mine next to the toilet, so that the dirty water can be siphoned down it. I also have taps fitted to fill the tank again. There is nothing on the bottom of the tank, it is not necessary. I have a heater set at blood heat, a special light, and I feed them on soaked dry cat food. This was all recommended by the vet for the now closed Zoo. Mine mate every year, and lay eggs, which they eat thankfully, and are perfectly healthy. But they are a commitment, which you probably could do without. Bottom line, Andy, and I hate to say it, but rather than give them away, I'd ask the vet to put them down. For their sake.
