Hi all ... can anyone recommend a solar light/lamp that actually lights? Say, enough to eat dinner or play cards by? We have four of them and they just - dimly - glow. Any suggestions gratefully welcomed ... cheers ...

Hi CC you need to look for ones that have more than one led bulb in there are double led lights im not sure if you can get them more powerfull than that. My son has some double led on his garden and they are much brighter than my single bulbs. Have you thought about large candles to with lots of wicks in the top to give extra light.

Hi CC, short of electric lamps, I cant offer anything useful I'm afraid! We've tried a range of solar powered lights and none were particularly strong.

The best ones we have found, which stick in the ground, although you could just remove the heads for a card table, are the Gardman stainless steel ones. The batteries do need replacing from time to time. We store our lights in the winter and put fresh batteries in about this time of the year. The original batteries are of dubious eastern origin. ;D Hope this helps.

I think the problem is, CC, that they have such a tiny solar charge capacity, that unless you find some with huge panels, there won't be enough juice for the light you want. However, what about buying a solar panel/battery kit from (Maplin's?) and powering your own bunch of led's? I'm sure it can be done, somehow: friends of mine have a cabin high in the mountains of Norway, and we use solar-charged 12v lights at night to eat/read/play cards by for hours... OM.
