One of my comets had babies last year, but as I was afraid of them getting eaten I rescued a few to grow on inside. Wo and behold, when I was out there a few days ago, I saw about 12 more swimming about, ranging in size from 2 inches to barely half an inch. Maybe a question for Andy. Every book, magazine and 'expert' I have read or spoken to, says don't stock immature fish into a pond late on as small fish won't survive the winter. My pond has had thick ice over it, except for the 14 inch diameter under my thermodome, for some of this winter, so why have they survived? Is it because they have got used to the conditions slowly, before the ice came or is the common advice given, wrong? Keith

Hi Keith i think they are stronger than books make out.My mother in law had 2 goldfish have babys in her pond last year sadly only one survived they must have eaten the rest. It was a tiny silver thing and we never thought it would survive but its as big as it parents now and turned gloden of course. They were constantly doing the mating ritual all summer i was waiting for them to spawn so i could rescue some for my pond. Well done on your babys how big were they when you rescued them?

Tiny (about cm long) probably not long born and most of the ones in the pond are larger than the ones in the container in the kitchen! Keith

Going to be nice to see what it is, isn't it? Then get it a friend (or 2 or 3 or 4 or a whole shoal in your lake) to play with!!! Keith
